RMT LTD. HAS SUCCESSFULLY FINISHED PERIODIC TESTS 2019 OF RMT TE MATERIAL

Dec 16, 2019

   RMT Ltd. has successfully finished periodic tests 2019 of RMT thermoelectric (TE) materials, produced in 2018-2019 by advanced technology.

   RMT carries out periodic tests of TE material every two years. Its objective is to verify the compliance of TE materials with the requirements of RMT internal specifications TU 7911-001-34609988-15, as well as to control the quality of the TE material and assess the stability of the RMT manufacturing process.

   The objects of the periodic test are the ingots of TE material recognized as suitable in accordance with TU 7911-001-34609988-15 and the technological instruction RMTT 052-17 TI “Measurement and certification of ingots”, as well as TE pellets cut out from the ingots.

   18 ingots of TE material and 44 batches of TE pellets were exposed to the following tests:

• Visual inspection;

• Measurements of the thermoelectric parameters of TE ingots: Seebeck coefficient α, electrical conductivity σ, power factor α2σ;

• Measurements of thermoelectric parameters of TE pellets cut from ingots: Seebeck coefficient α, electrical conductivity σ, power factor α2σ, thermoelectric figure-of-merit Z;

• Measurements of the mechanical strength of TE pellets cut from ingots;

• Tests for resistance to high temperatures (180 °C);

• Temperature cycling tests (-60°C /+85°C);

• Storage tests (125 °C).

   The test results indicate that TE materials manufactured by RMT in 2018-2019 by advanced technology meet the requirements of TU 8420-001-34609988-16.

   Comparing the results of measurements of thermoelectric figure-of-merit of batches of TE material produced in the period from 2018 to 2019 with batches of TE material produced in 2016-2017, the following can be noted:

- for the N-type, figure-of-merit Z of TE materials produced in 2018-2019 compared with figure-of-merit Z of TE materials produced in 2016-2017 increased from an average of 2.77 to 2.83 x10-3, 1/K, which is 2.2%;

- for the P-type, figure-of-merit Z of TE materials produced in 2018-2019 compared with figure-of-merit Z of TE materials produced in 2016-2017 increased from an average of 3.13 to 3.27 x10-3, 1/K, which is 4.5%.

   These results are due to the recently developed advanced TE materials mass-production launch. Nevertheless, RMT continues to carry out developments to further improve the properties of thermoelectric materials.
