Advanced TEC miniaturization - new MD02 Series

RMT Ltd introduce new MD02 Series of thermoelectric coolers based on ultra-high density of internal elements. RMT Ltd patented materials and processing technology allow to install more than 1100 BiTe posts per 1cm2 area. This is the highest possible level of miniaturization available for bulk technology miniature thermoelectric coolers.


Standard thermoelectric cooler consists of ceramics plates and BiTe posts (pellets) between them. The dimensions of these pellets inside TE cooler (as well as the distance between them) are directly connected to TEC performance parameters. Regular TE coolers have about 100-150 pellets density per 1cm2. RMT advanced materials and assembly technologies allow to increase the density of pellets inside TEC up to 250 or even 400 pellets pec cm2. More pellets inside means TEC higher cooling capacity. The dimensions of pellets, especially their cross-section, affect on TEC operating current. Smaller cross-section means lower operating current.


Now RMT presents new MD02 Series with the next level of miniaturization and pellets density inside TEC. New MD02 Series is based on RMT SuperHD technology - more than 1100 pellets per cm2 inside TEC.

The benefits of MD02 thermoelectric coolers is in unique low-current/high-voltage combination of operating parameters. High density of internal elements inside a thermoelectric cooler means higher TEC operating voltage. It increases the efficiency of power supply units and allows even to skip DC-DC converters in certain applications (for example telecom transceivers in compact form-factor).В 


MD02 Series TECs low operating current is the result of extremely tiny cross-section of internal elements. In fact with new SuperHD pellets placement technology RMT Ltd reaches the max possible level of bulk thermoelectric coolers miniaturization.

Finally the distance between internal elements inside new MD02 Series TEC is less than 100um. Despite of outward simplicity such miniaturization level requires the most advanced materials processing, manufacturing equipment and TEC assembly technologies, especially when it turns to high-volume manufacturing.

New MD02 Series is recommended for TO-can TOSA transceivers, VCSELs and LD applications with strong dimensional and power consumption limits.
